Sales figures of leading automotive players for December 2010

Hero Honda Motors Ltd (HHML)
Hero Honda Motors Ltd (HHML) recorded sales of 501,111 units in the month of December’10, a surge of 33 pc over the corresponding month in '09. The year 2010 also marked the best ever calendar year for the company with cumulative sales of over 5 million units, a growth of 16.4 pc over the calendar year 2009. During the year, the company also witnessed 5 lakh plus monthly sales in October and December and also recorded 4 lakh plus monthly sales for eight consecutive months.
The Q3 of FY’11 also marked the most successful quarter for Hero Honda, with sales of 14,28,030 units, up by 29 pc over the corresponding quarter in FY’10, when the company had sold 11,11,372 units.
Commenting on the performance, Anil Dua, Sr. VP (Marketing & Sales), Hero Honda Motors Ltd, said, “2010 has been an outstanding year for Hero Honda. The year 2010 not only witnessed sales of over 5 million units but the company also consistently raised the bar and created new records. A double digit growth rate despite the large base of previous year is the reflection of confidence and trust that our customers and business partners repose in us. For the coming year, we further intend to solidify our leadership by launching new products combined with customer-focused marketing programs.”
Yamaha India sales up by 30.7 pc at 350,264 units during CY 2010
India Yamaha Motor rode at a brisk pace in 2010 backed by new product offerings and novel marketing initiatives. The company clocked sales of 350,264 motorcycles in 2010 as compared to 267,895 motorcycles in 2009, a growth of 30.7 pc over last year. The domestic market recorded sales of 258,987 units in 2010 vs. 218,625 units in 2009; a growth of 18.5 pc while in export markets, a phenomenal growth of 85 pc was achieved with the sale of 91,277 motorcycles in 2010 vs. 49,270 units in 2009.
In December alone, the company sold 34,839 units this year vs. 20,529 units in December 2009, thereby registering a growth of 69.7 pc. In domestic markets, the company almost doubled last year’s sales, with 26,567 units in December 2010 vs. 13,612 units in the same month last year. The export figures stood at 8,272 units in December 2010 while 6,917 motorcycles were exported in December 2009.

Suzuki Motorcycles logs 78 pc jump in Dec 2010 at 25,837 units
Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of one of the world’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer Suzuki Motor Corporation, registered an increase in their monthly sales figures. Suzuki Motorcycles has sold 25837 units in Dec ’10 as opposed to 14549 in Dec ‘09, listing an impressive growth of 78 pc over its sales in Dec ‘09. This increase of sales is attributed to the tremendous response to the recently launched SLINGSHOT series.
Commenting on the excellent growth pattern, Atul Gupta, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, SMIPL, said “We have received very good response from the market to all our products including the newly-launched, Suzuki SlingShot series. We are committed to continue this growth momentum in future.”
Mahindra 2 Wheelers records 83 pc growth in December 2010
Mahindra Two Wheelers further consolidated its presence in the two wheeler segment in December 2010. The company's sales for the month of December 2010 stood at 14,971 units, as against 8,199 units in December 2009, an increase of 83 pc. Total cumulative sales from April to December 2010 stood at 122,859 units, as compared to 37,977 units for the same period last year, an increase of 224 pc. The Oct- Dec quarter sale on scooters stood at 47,403 units which is more than twice of what was achieved in the previous year same quarter. This quarter also saw the launch of Mahindra Stallio and the volume stood at 4,626 units.
TVS Motor Company December sales grows 42 pc at 171790 units
TVS Motor Company's December sales went up by 42 pc over the comparable period of the previous year. The company sold 171,790 units in December 2010 against 120,913 units in the same month of the previous year. Cumulative sales of the company for the period April 2010 to December 2010 thus stood at 1,512,896 units.
Two Wheeler: Total two wheeler sales witnessed a sizeable increase of 41 pc with sales of 168,359 units in December 2010 against 119,701 units registered in December 2009. Consequently, cumulative two wheeler sales for the period April 2010 to December 2010 increased by 34 pc with sales of 1,485,102 units over 1,109,054 units in April to December 2009. Domestic sales of the company increased by 46 pc with sales of 149,357 units in December 2010 against 102,479 units reported in December 2009. Scooter sales grew by an impressive 94 pc with sales of 41,804 units as against 21,566 units recorded in December 2009. Motorcycles sales recorded a growth of 24 pc with sales of 61,414 units in December 2010 as against 49,560 units in December 2009. The company exported 19,002 units of two wheelers in December 2010 against 17,222 units registered in December 2009.
Three Wheeler: In December 2010, the company sold 3,431 units of three wheelers against 1,212 units sold in the comparable month of the previous year. Cumulative three wheeler sales for the period April 2010 to December 2010 stood at 27,794 units against 8,707 units, a growth of 219 pc.
General Motors India’s sales grow by 59 pc in 2010
Riding high on the success of the popular Chevrolet brand, General Motors India has registered an impressive growth of 59 pc in sales in 2010, compared to the previous year. It has sold 110,804 units in the calendar year 2010 against 69,579 units sold in 2009.
In the month of December, the company has sold 8,468 units against 8,258 units sold in the corresponding month last year. The December 2010 sales comprised 2,691 units of Chevrolet Spark, 2,523 units of Chevrolet Beat, 1,694 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 623 units of Chevrolet Cruze, 288 units of Chevrolet Optra, 271 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, 258 units of Chevrolet Aveo and 120 units of Chevrolet Captiva.

Nissan India registers domestic sales of 1,104 nos. in December 2010
Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) has announced that it has registered total domestic sales of 1,104 nos. for the month of December 2010 as against 12 nos. in December 2009.
Out of the 1,104 units, Nissan Micra, the made-in-India Global compact hatchback leads the sales figures with 1057 units in December 2010 as against 1029 nos. sold in November 2010. The company has so far sold 6,441 units of Nissan Micra since sales began on July 15, 2010.
Out of the remaining, Nissan Teana, the luxury sedan (CBU) clocked 14 nos. in December 2010 as against 6 nos. in December 2009 and Nissan X-trail; the lifestyle SUV (CBU) registered sales of 31 units as against 6 nos. in December 2009. Nissan also sold 2 nos. of its iconic sports car, Nissan 370Z in December 2010. So far, the company has sold 8 units of 370Z since its launch in January this year.
Tata Motors December sales at 67,441 units
Tata Motors’ total sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in December 2010 were 67,441 vehicles, a growth of 31 pc over 51,627 vehicles sold in December 2009. The company’s domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for December 2010 were 61,632 nos., 28 pc growth over 48,173 nos. sold in December last year.
Cumulative sales (including exports) for the company for the fiscal are 566,933 nos., a growth of 31 pc over 432,630 nos. sold last year.
The company’s sales of commercial vehicles in December 2010 in the domestic market were 41,926 nos., a 25 pc growth compared to 33,519 vehicles sold in December last year. LCV sales were 24,558 nos., a growth of 35 pc over December last year, with the highest ever monthly sales of the Ace family. M&HCV sales stood at 17,368 nos., a growth of 14 pc over December last year.
Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal are 315,576 nos., a growth of 24 pc over last year. Cumulative LCV sales are 180,965 nos., a growth of 17 pc over last year, while M&HCV sales stood at 134,611 nos., a growth of 33 pc over last year.
The passenger vehicles business reported a total sale and distribution offtake of 19,977 nos. (19,706 Tata + 271 Fiat) in the domestic market in December 2010, higher by 28 pc compared to 15,661 nos. (14,654 Tata + 1,007 Fiat) in December last year. Sales of Tata passenger vehicles are 19,706 nos., higher by 34 pc over December 2009. Sales of the Tata Nano were 5,784 nos., higher by 60 pc over December last year. The Indica range sales were 5,923 nos., higher by 40 pc over December last year. The Indigo range recorded sales of 5,234 nos., a growth of 3 pc over December last year. The Sumo/ Safari/ Aria range accounted for sales of 2,765 nos., higher by 62 pc over December last year. Jaguar Land Rover sales continued their upward trend.
Cumulative sales and distribution offtake of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal are 223,881 nos. (208,697 Tata + 15,184 Fiat), against 172,004 nos. (153,939 Tata + 18,065 Fiat) last year, a growth of 30 pc. Cumulative sales of Tata passenger vehicles were 208,697 nos., a 36 pc increase compared to 153,939 nos., in December last year. Cumulative sales of the Nano are 46,760 nos., a 167 pc increase compared to 17,534 nos., in December last year. Cumulative sales of the Indica range are 70,273 nos., lower by 12 pc. Cumulative sales of the Indigo family are 63,306 nos., higher by 84 pc. Cumulative sales of the Sumo/Safari/ Aria range are 28,358 nos., higher by 28 pc.
The company's sales from exports at 5,809 vehicles in December 2010 registered a growth of 68 pc compared to 3,454 vehicles in December last year. The cumulative sales from exports for the fiscal at 42,660 nos. are higher by 81 pc over 23,523 nos. in the same period last year.
Honda Siel Cars India registers a growth of 26 pc in December 2010
Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI), leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, sold 5,135 units in December 2010 as against 4,063 units sold during the corresponding month last year, marking an impressive growth of 26 pc. Model wise break-up: City: 4380; Civic: 275; Accord: 185; Jazz: 269; CR-V: 26.
Volkswagen India CY 2010 sales up by 974 pc at 32, 627 units
Volkswagen brand successfully ended the year 2010 with remarkable sales of 32, 627 unit vehicles across India. This effectively shows a growth of over 974 per cent when compared to the same period last year (January-December 2009 – 3039 units were sold).
Volkswagen brand continued its exemplary growth even in the month of December which ended with 5, 772 unit vehicles sold.
Commenting on the record sales, Neeraj Garg, Member of Board, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said “We are extremely delighted with the response received for our products. This reflects the growing customer confidence towards the Volkswagen carline.” He further added, “To ensure we are able to reach out directly to this growing customer base, we have further expanded our reach from 40 to 70 dealerships across the country this year. These dealerships are spread not only in major cities but also in the secondary and tertiary towns where demand of our cars are increasing.”
Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s records 38 pc growth in sales in the year 2010 opens Fortuner bookings anew
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has registered a growth of 38 pc pc in sales in the year 2010, compared to last year. It sold 74759 units in the calendar year 2010 against 54320 units in 2009.
Commenting on the sales for the year 2010, Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director-Marketing, TKM said, “We are very happy with the response we have received from our customers in 2010. This year has witnessed the most important launch in the history of Toyota in India – The launch of Etios and the unveiling of the hatchback Liva. The first batch of Etios – more than 400 units - have already been dispatched to the dealerships and we have begun delivering vehicles to the customers. The vehicles are on display at most of our dealerships.”
He further added, “In 2011, we look forward to the launch of the hatchback Liva in April, and also establishing the brand of Toyota among the masses with the Etios and hatchback Liva, apart from giving our customers a Q Class Experience.”
Meanwhile, Toyota also announced that bookings for the Fortuner will reopen on Jan 1 2011. The bookings were last reopened on July 2010 for a period of one month. The Fortuner launched in Aug 2009 has since sold more than 15,000 units acquiring a 57 pc market share in the mid SUV segment.”
Škoda Auto India closes 2010 with 38 pc jump in sales at 20,166 units
Škoda Auto India has announced that its sales grew by 38 pc in the year 2010 vis-à-vis year 2009. ŠkodaAuto India’s total sales for year 2010 stood at 20,166 units. The company’s sales performance was encouraging in the last month of the year as well with total sales of 2,617 units and a growth of 135 pc over the same period last year. The introduction of the new Škoda Fabia and Škoda Yeti were the main highlights of the year 2010 for Škoda Auto India. This is the highest year-on-year sales growth for the company since its entry in Indian Market.

Hyundai Motor India cumulative sales up by 7.8 pc at 47,228 units
Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter ended the year on a high note with domestic sales growing by a healthy 23.1 pc while exports saw a decline of 8.5 pc. Cumulative growth stood at 7.8 pc for the year ending December, 2010.
HMIL’s total sales for December, 2010 stood at 47,228 units as against 47,217 units in December, 2009 while the cumulative sales almost remained the same. The domestic sales growth however registered a healthy growth of 17.6 pc over 2009 and stood at 26,168 units as compare to 22,252 units for 2009. Exports dipped by 15.6 pc to 21,060 units in 2010 against 24,965 units in 2009.
In calendar year 2010 (Jan – Dec) HMIL grew by 7.8 pc cumulatively registering total sales of 603,819 units as against 559,880 units of 2009 with domestic sales surging by 23.1 pc over 2009. Domestic sales accounted for 356,717 units in 2010 as against 289,863 in the year 2009. Overseas sales accounted for 247,102 units as against 270,017 units in 2009 which reflects a decline of 8.5 pc for the calendar year 2010.
Commenting on HMIL’s performance Arvind Saxena, Director - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, “The year 2010 has been positive for the industry and HMIL. For the first time since inception HMIL clocked record cumulative sales of over 600,000 units and new products like the Santa Fe as well as upgrades like the ‘Next Gen’ i10 have been very well received by the market and we continue to be a strong player in the domestic market. We expect the market to continue to grow in 2011 although the rate of growth may come down somewhat.”
Mahindra’s auto and tractor sales up during December 2010
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.) has announced a 42 pc growth in its auto sales numbers for the month of December 2010 which stood at 34,062 units as against 24,001 units during December 2009.The company’s domestic sales stood at 32,546 units during December 2010, as against 22,754 units during December 2009, an increase of 43 pc.
The Passenger Vehicles segment (which includes the UVs as well as the Logan) has also registered a growth of 28 pc, having sold 15,601 units in December 2010, as against 12,212 units during December 2009. The 4 wheel pick-up segment, which includes the Maxximo and the Gio LCVs have registered a growth of 47 pc, having sold 10,161 units during December 2010 as against 6,933 units during December 2009.
The 3-wheelers of the company also grew by 104 pc having sold 5,928 units in December 2010 compared to 2,909 units in December 2009.
Mahindra & Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector (FES) has maintained its leadership position in the tractor industry in December 2010. Total tractor sales (domestic + exports) in December 2010 stood at 16,334 units, as against 12,439 units during December 2009, an increase of 31 pc. For the period April to December 2010, total cumulative sales (domestic + exports) stood at 154,265 units, as compared to 127,670 units for the corresponding period last year, an increase of 21 pc.
Exports during the month of December 2010 were 1,199 units, as against 922 units in December 2009, an increase of 30 pc. Domestic sales in December 2010 stood at 15,135 units, as against 11,517 units during December 2009, an increase of 31 pc.
